Apollo Stakes History:

The Apollo Stakes was first run in 1977 and the inaugural winner was Visit. It gained its current Group 2 status two years after its inception in 1979.

Although it has always been run over the same 1400m distance, up until 2005 the Apollo Stakes was run at the Royal Randwick, Sydney’s other premier racing venue, before moving to its new home at Rosehill.

Over the race’s history a number of horses have won multiple Apollo Stakes including Sunline (2000 & 2001) and Juggler (1996 & 1997).

Other top-class gallopers to take out the Apollo Stakes include Tuesday Joy (2009), Lonhro (2003) and Naturalism (1993).
