Apollo Stakes
The Apollo Stakes is a Group 2 Australian thoroughbred race run over 1400m at Sydney’s scenic Rosehill Gardens Racecourse as the headline act on Apollo Stakes Day. The Apollo Stakes 2013 will be run at Rosehill on the 19th February 2013.
Run under weight-for-age conditions it is held in February each year and is the only black type race at the meeting.

Apollo Stakes History:
The Apollo Stakes was first run in 1977 and the inaugural winner was Visit. It gained its current Group 2 status two years after its inception in 1979.
Although it has always been run over the same 1400m distance, up until 2005 the Apollo Stakes was run at the Royal Randwick, Sydney’s other premier racing venue, before moving to its new home at Rosehill.
Over the race’s history a number of horses have won multiple Apollo Stakes including Sunline (2000 & 2001) and Juggler (1996 & 1997).
Other top-class gallopers to take out the Apollo Stakes include Tuesday Joy (2009), Lonhro (2003) and Naturalism (1993).
