Danleigh Wins 2010 Apollo Stakes

February 22nd, 2010

On Saturday Rosehill Racecourse was home to the highly anticipated $250, 000 Group 2 Apollo Stakes (1400m) where the Chris Waller-trained Danleigh claimed victory in the latest Sydney Autumn Carnival feature.

Danleigh ($8) beat home his stablemate and the $2.40 favourite Rangirangdoo by a half-neck giving Waller the quinella, while Villiers Stakes winner Palacio De Cristal ($21) finished off the trifecta in third.

McClintock led early on but was overtaken by hot pick Ranginrangdoo on the straight. It looked like the favourite-backers would see pay day as Ranginrangdoo took control, but Danleigh with rider Hugh Bowman made a dashing run up the centre that saw them snatch the lead and the win.

The victory gave Danleigh, now a dual Group 1 winner, his seventh win from 29 career starts and boosted his earnings to over $1.53million.

Danleigh, Rangirangdoo and Palacio De Cristal will face off again in the Chipping Norton Stakes

Danleigh, along with the other placegetters Rangirangdoo and Palacio De Cristal, will face off again in a fortnight when they contest the Group 1 Chipping Norton Stakes at Warwick Farm.
