January 19th, 2011

The 2011 Apollo Stakes, one of the first Group races of the annual Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival, will take place at the scenic Rosehill Gardens Racecourse on Saturday February 19, 2011.

A weight-for-age race run over a middle sprint distance of 1400m, the Group 2 Apollo Stakes is worth $250,000 in prize money this year and is the feature race of the Sydney Turf Club’s Apollo Stakes Day.

The Apollo / Chipping Norton Stakes is a popular autumn betting double so check the odds at Luxbet this season!

The Apollo Stakes Day meeting also features two other stakes races with the $100,000 Listed Triscay Stakes (1200m) and the $100,000 Listed Parramatta Cup (2000m) also providing some exciting betting markets for punters.

The first Group race of the Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival is the Group 2 Expressway Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill on February 5 and many horses that contest this race will back up with a run in the Apollo Stakes.

After running in the Apollo Stakes, the better horses from the field may continue onto the Group 1 Chipping Norton Stakes (1600m) at Warwick Farm on March 5 and in recent years the Apollo Stakes has served as an excellent guide to the Chipping Norton.

Last year’s Apollo Stakes winner Danleigh backed up with a gallant third in the Chipping Norton, which was won by Theseo who ran eighth in the Apollo, while Rangirangdoo managed to run a close second in both the 2010 Apollo Stakes and 2010 Chipping Norton Stakes.

The last horse to take out the Apollo Stakes – Chipping Norton Stakes double was Tuesday Joy in 2009, so check the Luxbet odds for this exciting betting double this year.

This year Danleigh’s stable mate, the fellow Chris Waller-trained Metal Bender is set to resume racing in the Apollo Stakes.

Nominations for the 2011 Apollo Stakes close on Monday February 14 and then the final field of acceptors will be released on Wednesday February 16 and published right here so bookmark this site.
