2011 Apollo Stakes Final Field Announced

February 16th, 2011

The 2011 Apollo Stakes will take place this Saturday February 19, 2011.

The final field and barrier draws for the 2011 Apollo Stakes have been announced today.

In a field that looks almost exactly like that of the 2011 Expressway Stakes which was run on February 5, Centennial Park is hoping to make it two in a row.

Betting odds for all of the 2011 Apollo Stakes field will be available closer to Saturday’s race at Luxbet.

Centennial Park’s trainer, David Payne, has spoken of his gelding’s leg injuries and feels that he has completely overcome them.

“I gave him a few easy days (after the Expressway Stakes) and I’m really happy with him, he’s done very well.”

David Payne is confident that Centennial Park can win the 2011 Apollo Stakes, and feels he is in the best form of his life.

“The win in the Expressway was a wonderful fighting win,” said Payne.

“The way he beat them and the slight step up to 1400m is even better for him, he’ll be competitive again.”

Love Conquers All, who finished second to Centennial Park in the 2011 Expressway Stakes, and Hot Danish, who finished second, have also been named as runners in the 2011 Apollo Stakes.

Love Conquers All has drawn barrier eight in the race and will carry 59 kilograms, while Hot Danish will jump from barrier five and has been allocated 57 kilograms to carry.

Making a comeback from a spell is Gerald Ryan’s Melito.

Gerald Ryan made the decision to start his horse in the 2011 Apollo Stakes after she trialled at Rosehill on February 15 and proved she was ready by winning the trial by 1.75 lengths.

“She trialled probably as good as she has ever trialled,” Ryan said.

Melito had drawn barrier nine and will carry 57 kilograms in the 2011 Apollo Stakes.

Danleigh, who finished fourth in the Expressway Stakes, has drawn barrier ten and be ridden by jockey Hugh Bowman.
