2015 Apollo Stakes Betting Preview and Tips

February 13th, 2015

14 runners remain in contention for the 2015 Apollo Stakes (1400m) at Randwick this weekend following the removal of leading contender Red Excitement, offering punters great value from a betting standpoint and several key opportunities to place a winning wager.

Weary was not given much hope for success in the Group 2 Expressway Stakes (1200m) first-up a fortnight ago, but after securing an impressive victory, rates as an outright $5.50 favourite in 2015 Apollo Stakes betting markets ahead of Lucia Valentina and Contributer; currently sharing the second line at a quote of $6.50 with leading online bookie Ladbrokes.com.au.

Will Weary justify favouritism and claim another victory in the 2015 Apollo Stakes, or will one of his many talented rivals chalk up a triumph of their own?

Lucia Valentina ($6)

A two-time Group 1 winner, Lucia Valentina is a proven performer over track, distance and first-up, and as a result offers punters arguably the best value for money in 2015 Apollo Stakes betting markets. Transferring to the care of Kris Lees from her native New Zealand prior to the 2014 Autumn Carnival, Lucia Valentina won the Group 1 Vinery Stud Stakes (2000m) and progressed to a credible third in the Group 1 Australian Oaks (2400m) most notably over her first preparation, returning in spring for a commanding first-up win in the Group 2 Tramway Stakes (1400m) on September 6th. Continuing to build in form and class on her way to success in the Group 1 Turnbull Stakes (2000m) and third place finish in the Group 1 Caulfield Cup (2400m) most notably, the daughter of Savabeel is more than worth consideration for an Apollo Stakes bet.

Weary ($5.50)

Weary was a standout performer for trainer Chris Waller over the 2014 Autumn Carnival, and while unable to figure in contention over three disappointing spring starts, has returned in great condition this time in. Beginning his career abroad in France, the son of Astronomer Royal ran third in a minor over 1400m in February last year before placing second in the Group 2 Ajax Stakes (1500m) and winning the Group 3 Doncaster Prelude (1500m) in late March. Returning the paddock following an impressive third in the Group 1 Doncaster Mile (1600m) and second in the Group 1 All Aged Stakes (1400m), Weary will leave from the somewhat wide and awkward barrier 13 in the Apollo Stakes 2015.

Silent Achiever ($10)

Silent Achiever has amassed an impressive four Group 1 victories over her standout racing career, and while noted largely in events over 2000m, placed an impressive third in the Group 1 Memsie Stakes (1400m) first-up in spring and is therefore more than worth consideration at current Apollo Stakes odds. Having ended her memorable 2014 calendar third in the Cox Plate, the O’reilly mare is a proven autumn performer, having taken out each of the Group 1 New Zealand Stakes (2000m), Group 1 Ranvet Stakes (2000m) and Group 1 The BMW (2400m) in 2014.
